Preventative Care for Cats and Dogs

Improving Mobility and Pain with Veterinary Rehab Therapy

Our veterinarians at Hefner Road Animal Hospital never want to see pets suffering unnecessarily. We have pet rehabilitation services for cats and dogs recovering from surgery or an injury, living with mobility difficulty, or managing chronic pain. Veterinary rehabilitation can be a part of treatment plans with the goal of helping pets regain strength and mobility.

Our Veterinary Rehabilitation Services

Laser Therapy

Our non-invasive laser therapy uses focused light energy to reduce inflammation and stimulate cell regeneration. It’s ideal for pets experiencing pain, living with soft tissue injuries, or recovering from surgery. You can learn more on our dedicated laser therapy page.

Stretching

We perform targeted passive stretching by manually working on your pet’s tight or sore areas such as the legs, quads, shoulders, and biceps. For more active pets, we incorporate active stretching using elevated surfaces that safely encourage them to stretch on their own while engaging their muscles.

Massage Therapy

Massage sessions focus on sore muscle groups, like the back, shoulders, neck, and quads, to increase circulation and reduce tension. Veterinary massage is especially beneficial for pets with certain kinds of chronic pain or those recovering from intense physical activity.

Land Exercises

Lands exercises for pets are useful for getting them to bear weight on weaker limbs, build strength, and improve appropriate sitting posture. We guide pets through controlled movements using tools like peanut balls, steps, cones, and platforms. This type of veterinary rehab can include sit-to-stand exercises, pivoting, and general core work.

Hot and Cold Pack Therapy

Used before and after exercise, hot and cold packs soothe sore muscles and support recovery. This therapy is applied to targeted areas of concern to prepare pets for activity and reduce post-session soreness.

Why Do Pets Need Rehabilitation?

Pets can suffer from injuries, surgeries, age-related issues, and chronic conditions that limit their movement or cause discomfort. Veterinary rehabilitation may be recommended by a veterinarian for:

  • Recovery from orthopedic surgery
  • Arthritis and degenerative joint disease
  • Weight management and obesity-related joint stress
  • Sports injuries or agility-related strain
  • Chronic pain or reduced mobility

By addressing these issues through veterinary rehab therapy, we can reduce long-term damage and restore a higher quality of life. Our veterinary team knows it’s hard to see your pet unable to run around like “normal.” We bring compassionate care along with clinical expertise. Every rehabilitation session is meant to be a positive experience for your pet, and we will work with you to do what is best for your four-legged companion.
