In order to give your pet the best treatment possible, we offer diagnostics to help us understand your pet’s health more fully. Because physical exams limit us to what we can see on the outside, we need diagnostics to show us what's happening inside. Our doctors can, therefore, create a more complete picture of your pet’s current condition and be better-equipped to suggest the right treatment. Get started by calling us at (405) 773-5557.
Early Detection Can Reverse or Prevent Disease Progression
Healthy pets should be screened annually for heartworm disease, which may not reveal any clinical signs for a long time. Furthermore, if your pet is ill or behaving oddly, diagnostics can help us identify the problem. Detecting injury, illness, or infection early on can save your pet from needless stress and discomfort.

Digital X-Ray and Dental X-Ray for Cats and Dogs
Hefner Road Animal Hospital is proud to offer digital X-ray technology that can study various parts of the body, including the bones, heart, lungs, abdomen, and mouth (we have a separate system for full-mouth X-rays). With our equipment, we can diagnose:
- Heart problems
- Tumors
- Obstructions or foreign bodies in the stomach or intestine
- Broken bones
- Dental disease and resorptive lesions that are hidden below the gum line
- Heartworm disease
- ...and more
Digital X-ray is superior to film X-ray because it provides sharper, higher-contrast images that allow for better diagnosing. It can also be performed in far less time.
Our In-House Laboratory
Our in-house laboratory equipment allows us to evaluate samples of blood, urine, fecal matter, and skin cells for a more accurate diagnosis. We can also study samples under the microscope or run them through a machine that provides data for us to interpret. Therefore we can obtain results quickly, especially if your pet needs urgent care.
Our lab tests include:
Full Blood Panel
(or CBC)
Identifies the amount of white and red blood cells and platelets, and also screens for various disorders
Chemistry Panel
The chemistry panel measures the electrolytes and other values in the blood to determine general health and to gauge the effectiveness of a certain treatment
Heartworm
Testing
We can see if your pet is infected with heartworms and able to continue/begin their heartworm preventive
Cytology
We can diagnose skin disorders and other problems by viewing tissue samples under the microscope
Fungal Culture
Fungal infections can cause a lot of problems for pets, so it’s important for us to be able to evaluate samples right here in our hospital
Fecal Testing
Your pet’s stool harbors clues about their health that can help us diagnose illness, parasites, and other problems
Urinalysis
Testing the urine can reveal signs of a urinary tract infection, diabetes mellitus, and other issues
